After my uncle had had a stroke and lost his speech, I was very keen to find someone who could provide support for him privately as it was clear that the NHS Speech and Language service was extremely stretched and he was unlikely to receive any one-to-one sessions. As soon as I contacted Sam, I felt at ease and knew I had found the right person! She was quick to reply and we spoke in depth about my uncle's needs.I felt very confident that Sam would provide an excellent service as she was very keen to liaise with the NHS, find out about my uncle and his interests and provide flexibility, which was key; my uncle was unable to drive to appointments so she arranged home visits
This is my uncle's review: 'the preparation before the initial visit was excellent. Sam clearly outlined the format, the costs and the T&Cs. She was very punctual for every home visit. The two assessments and the final report were very focused, thorough and detailed, which was really helpful. I made good progress and would have no hesitation in recommending Sam.'

All options were looked at, whether it was using electronic aids, looking for support from other agencies, going out in to the community to show Andrew how to manage without the gift of speech, and the friendship that developed helped Andrew to feel that it was worth keeping trying.
